Safaricom Commits KES 3 Million to Support Young Scientists Kenya Exhibition

Safaricom, through its youth engagement platform Safaricom Hook, has announced a KES 3 million sponsorship for the 8th edition of the National Science and Technology Exhibition by Young Scientists Kenya (YSK).
The exhibition, taking place from August 5th to 9th at Moi Educational Centre in South C, Nairobi, brings together over 250 secondary school students selected from more than 3,000 applicants across the country.
The sponsorship reaffirms Safaricom’s ongoing commitment to nurturing youth innovation and advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Kenya. With this latest contribution, Safaricom has now invested KES 65 million in support of YSK since 2018.
This year’s theme, “Using STEM to Drive Towards a Sustainable Future,” emphasizes the critical role of science and technology in addressing Kenya’s social, economic, and environmental challenges.
“We believe that Kenya’s future lies in the hands of its young people. By supporting platforms like Young Scientists Kenya, we are investing in the ideas, energy, and creativity that will shape our nation’s tomorrow,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.
The student exhibitors are presenting research-driven projects in areas such as health, agriculture, environmental science, digital technology, and social innovation. To recognize outstanding contributions, Safaricom Hook will reward top-performing students with smartphones, smartwatches, headphones, and airtime.
Beyond the exhibitions, the week-long event also features mentorship sessions and panel discussions, drawing participation from over 150 teachers, education policymakers, academics, and industry experts. These sessions aim to inspire scientific inquiry further and support the growth of a vibrant STEM ecosystem in Kenya.
Young Scientists Kenya has evolved into a flagship initiative that promotes hands-on learning and innovation among students. Over the years, it has impacted thousands of learners and educators, playing a significant role in elevating STEM education nationwide.
Safaricom Hook continues to empower youth through initiatives in technology, skills development, and culture. The platform offers digital training forums, internship placements, and tech bootcamps—preparing young people for the future of work and innovation.
