M-PESA Sokoni Caravan Rolls into Nairobi for Grand Final

Safaricom’s nationwide M-PESA Sokoni Caravan has made its entry into Nairobi, marking the final leg of its countrywide tour.

The campaign, launched in June as part of the M-PESA @18 celebrations, has been traversing the nation, delighting customers in regions including the Coast, Rift Valley, Mt. Kenya, and Western Kenya. Nairobi now takes centre stage as the last stop, following a successful run across other counties.

The caravan kicked off in Kibera (Kwa DC) and is set to tour various estates across the city, including Waithaka stage, Zambezi, Limuru stage, and Wangige. As part of the ongoing celebrations, Safaricom customers can look forward to exciting giveaways, including shopping vouchers, smartphones, electronics, cash prizes, branded merchandise, and other surprises through the popular “M-PESA or the Box” game show.

Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa expressed his excitement about the tour’s culmination in Nairobi, stating that the journey has been an opportunity to interact with customers and celebrate their loyalty. He urged Nairobi residents to come out in large numbers and be part of the celebrations marking 18 years of M-PESA and the achievement of reaching 50 million customer subscriptions.

Beyond the M-PESA Sokoni Caravan, Safaricom has lined up a series of events across the city this week. On Tuesday, the Safire Connect forum will take place at Strathmore University, bringing together individuals to exchange ideas around personal branding, entrepreneurship, community opportunities, and financial wellness. On Wednesday, the M-PESA Foundation will host the Wezesha Mama initiative at the Michael Joseph Centre, aiming to empower women’s groups in the region through digital and financial literacy training, as well as access to seed capital to support their business ventures.

On Thursday, Safaricom will honour the contribution of its partners through the M-PESA Agent Awards, recognising outstanding performance and dedication among its agent network. This will be followed on Friday by the Grow with Safaricom Business Forum at the Michael Joseph Centre, where small and medium-sized enterprises will receive training and insights to help scale their businesses, improve operations, access markets, and overcome regulatory and branding challenges. The week will wrap up with the Safaricom Hook youth engagement and market day at Greenspan Mall on Saturday, offering young people an opportunity to network, showcase their talents, and explore digital tools for personal and professional growth.

Throughout the tour, customers have also been introduced to various Safaricom products and services designed to enhance their financial and business lives, including Ziidi MMF, Taasi Till and Taasi Pochi, Fuliza ya Biashara, Pochi la Biashara, Lipa na M-PESA, Safaricom Hook, Safaricom Emerald, and Masoko.

With Nairobi as the grand finale, Safaricom continues to celebrate its journey with Kenyans, highlighting innovation, inclusion, and empowerment at the heart of M-PESA’s evolution.
