Glovo Surpasses Delivery of Over 400,000 Social Meals in Kenya

Glovo has announced that it has delivered over 400,000 social meals to vulnerable communities reaching at least 20,000 beneficiaries monthly.

This is being done through its partnership with Food Banking Kenya.

These efforts are part of Glovo’s partnership with Food Banking Kenya to support local hunger relief and sustainable food distribution.

As part of its continued commitment to addressing food insecurity, Glovo has recently partnered with Food Banking Kenya to provide equipment for a soup kitchen in Githogoro, which will provide vital nutrition to underserved communities. This initiative, launched on the sidelines of World Food Day, reflects Glovo’s focus on creating sustainable solutions that address hunger and support long-term development across Kenya.

Caroline Mutuku, General Manager of Glovo Kenya, emphasised the company’s dedication to making a meaningful difference: “Delivering over 400,000 meals is a significant milestone for Glovo and reflects our deep commitment to fighting food insecurity. Our partnership with Food Banking to  launch the Githogoro soup kitchen is a vital step in ensuring that vulnerable communities have sustainable access to nutritious meals.”

Since June 2024, Glovo has  supported Food Banking in driving its relief efforts targeted at food security. This partnership was established to bolster food rescue and distribution efforts, ensuring that surplus food from farms and retailers that would have been wasted reaches Kenya’s most vulnerable populations.

Daphne Kabeberi, Glovo’s Impact and Sustainability Lead for Africa, highlighted the company’s broader commitment to social responsibility:

“Through Glovo Access, we are committed to delivering sustainable solutions to address food insecurity and reduce food waste. Our partnership with Food Banking Kenya, alongside increased donations and logistical support, underscores Glovo’s dedication to building a more resilient and food-secure future for all.”

Glovo’s logistical support initiative for NGOs, Glovo Access,  has enabled Food Banking Kenya to distribute surplus food efficiently and at no cost, significantly increasing their reach and impact across the region.

John Gathungu, Director of Food Banking Kenya, said  “Glovo has been a key partner in expanding our ability to serve communities in need. Their financial and logistical support has been crucial in helping us reach more people and deliver more meals. The launch of the Githogoro soup kitchen is a significant milestone in our mission to combat food insecurity.”

As Glovo continues to expand its impact, the company remains dedicated to leading efforts to empower communities, support vulnerable populations, and drive sustainable change through long-term solutions.
