More than 1500 participants to take part in the Inclusive FinTech Forum in Kigali
The Inclusive FinTech Forum is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda from the 20th to 22nd June 2023.
The Forum is the result of a collaboration between Elevandi, a not-for-profit originally set up by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to foster an open dialogue between the public and private sectors to advance FinTech in the digital economy and the Kigali International Financial Centre.
The conference is expected to host over 1,800 participants from 65 countries and more than 180 expert speakers from 7 regions. Of the attendees expected, 45% are in executive management, while over 50% are international attendees. There will be representation from private investors with over $3bn available for investment and representation from institutional investors with over $500m available for investment in public-private partnerships.
The event has been curated to be action-oriented and results-driven and includes several innovative and structured platforms such as the Knowledge Dialogue, Elevandi Insight ForumTM, FinTech Without Borders, The Founders PeakTM and The Capital Meets Policy DialogueTM. There will also be an exhibition, workshops and a closing plenary where all the discussions will be brought together and a communique issued which will identify the key next steps for growth and development.
Some of the invited guests are the governors of central banks from Rwanda, Singapore, Ghana, Uganda and Tanzania along with heads of FinTech associations from Africa, Asia and Europe.
The two speakers hailed the partnership between their two organisations – true South-South partnerships – and the shared goals driving the conference and the expected outcomes.
Pat Patel, Executive Director, Elevandi observed that there has been an increased push for sustainable and inclusive development around the world in recent years, noting that using tech is one of the approaches that can be used to achieve this. Convening the relevant stakeholders, such as policymakers, investors, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs, offers a way to align the implementation of policies and partnerships that will support greater financial inclusion.
“According to the World Bank, there are 1.4 billion people who are unbanked today, and that presents a great and purposeful opportunity to provide new types of services for people across the world in a way that works for them,” he said. Mudenge pointed to Rwanda’s reputation for convening events that address critical issues and said she expected the FinTech Forum to enable similar discussions around financial inclusion and sustainability. “We understand that the financial services industry is growing and will play a critical role in the next decade and more so it’s important to convene the right people, leveraging what Rwanda has established as a country,” she said.
The President and First Lady of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Paul and Jeanette Kagame, will be the Special Guests of Honour at the Inclusive FinTech Forum.
The President of the Republic of Zambia, H.E. Hakainde Hichilema, will also join as one of the keynote speakers.
