Counties to discuss their ICT roadmaps at Connected Summit 2023
Counties will have a chance to showcase the milestones they have made in the digital space at the upcoming Connected Kenya 2023 Summit to be held in March.
County Forum under the theme “Role of Counties in Fostering Digital Economic Growth” will provide an opportunity for counties to discuss the challenges faced in the digital infrastructure, Counties ICT Roadmap, ICT Budget Allocation- Policy Formulation. They will also discuss their Integrated ICT Platforms, Smart Counties, and Innovations and the strategies to overcome them.
Pillar two, digital services, of the (ICT) Digital Masterplan 2022-2032, launched by the government last year proposed accelerated automation and digitization for all government core services in both national and county governments. This, the government noted will start with the digitization of over 5 billion government records.
The County Forum will be a great opportunity to discuss major issues and risks impacting the digital future and to explore opportunities for hastening digital gains in all the forty-seven counties. Discussions will also be centered around accelerating digital business and e-commerce, and closing the digital skills gap.
Counties like Murang’a have already entered into partnerships Kenya’s leading telco Safaricom to fully digitize the provision of devolved services. In Nairobi, the county also recently tapped into Safaricom, to build an app that will help bolster revenue collection efforts. The partnership which will run for two years will see Safaricom develop and support the “My Nairobi App” as part of the “My Nairobi” hub that provides digital services and citizen engagement.
The National Government through the ICT Ministry has so far installed 61 hotspots and intends to have at least two more in each of the counties by June 2023.
The government has also established a data center at Konza Technopolis for centralized data storage by all government entities, while the development of a framework and guidelines to enhance security, protection, and cost-effectiveness is ongoing.
The 12th edition of Connected Kenya Summit will be hosted by the ICT Authority (ICTA), from the 2nd to the 5th of April 2023 in Kwale County.
The summit will be hosted under the theme The Digital Economy: Endless opportunities shaping the future and will bring together over 1000 delegates, local and international.
