We’re not killing the reverse call feature, Safaricom CEO says

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa has refuted claims that the telco is planning to kill its reverse call service. The CEO made this clarification following online reports that the service will be abolished from Safaricom’s network.

Ndegwa says the service is here to stay.

”I have received many queries on whether we are ‘killing’ our reverse call service. This is untrue. We continue to provide this service as it addresses a key need to a large part of our customer base.” he said in a tweet.

Safaricom introduced the Reverse Call feature back in 2019. The feature which compliments their “Please Call Me” feature lets customers send a maximum of five message requests to be called back in a day.

The feature makes it easier for you to call a number without airtime. Instead of having to incur the cost of calling, a user transfers the cost to the receiver of the call.

How Safaricom Reverse Call Works

When calling, a user inserts a # sign before the start of the receiver’s number. Like in case of 0722000000 you’ll dial #0722000000. The receiver will then be prompted to receive the call the usual way, but they will be prompted to press 1 to accept the call cost transfer to their line.

This option is only available for on-net calls other calls will not access this feature.
