Lenovo Leads Global PC Shipment With 23.1% Market Share
Computer hardware manufacturer Lenovo leads the global PC market, according to a report by Counter Research Global PC tracker.
In Q1 2022, the company shipped 18.2 million units, 9.5% lesser than in 2021, but still retained the lead with a market share of 23.1%. While most manufacturers faced production challenges due to global chip shortage, Lenovo performed well during the pandemic largely due to its in-house manufacturing and operation control. Analysts say that this advantage will continue to help the company in times of demand uncertainty or component supply issues.
HP follows at 20.2%, representing a 16% decrease YoY in shipments, attributed to a decline in Chromebook demand and consumer preference changes.
Dell came third, recording a slight increase in its shipment in the first quarter of 2022, attributed to its commercial/premium product strategy. The company’s market share also increased slightly in Q1 2022.
The report by Counterpoint notes: “Apple continued its success with the M1 MacBook series to see 8% YoY shipment growth in Q1 2022, which boosted its market share by 100 bps YoY. Asus saw 4% YoY shipment growth thanks to its gaming and commercial products expansion. Acer continued to struggle due to Chromebook sales losing momentum and ended the quarter with a 1% shipment decline. Asus and Acer both had ~7% market share in the quarter.”
The past two years have witnessed a serious shortage in components as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has affected the supply chain and necessitated reorganization. The trend slowly started to change in late 2021 and the demand-supply gaps are gradually narrowing.
