These are the top listened podcasts on Spotify in Kenya

‘The Mics Are Open” and ‘Legally Clueless’ are some of the most popular podcasts on Spotify in Kenya. This is according to a new report released by the company last week.

In the last two years, Spotify says podcast consumption has increased, and people are getting more creative. Podcasts started off as heavily educational but have now branched into many dynamic genres.

The sheer experience of streaming music and listening to a podcast on the same platform is one of the many impressive features of the Spotify app that attracts users. Today, there are over 2.9 million podcast titles available to Spotify listeners in Kenya.

The top listened-to podcasts in Kenya include, The Joe Rogan Experience, The Mics Are Open, Legally Clueless, Divercity 1 Love Christian Network, The Sandwich Podcast, 7 Good Minutes Daily Self-Improvement Podcast, Super Soul, For Christ, Joel Osteen Podcast, and Ted Talks Daily.

Out of that list,  only three are local ‘The Mics are open’‘Legally Clueless’, and ‘The Sandwich Podcast’.

Spotify says Kenyans are clearly loving homegrown podcasts, and this can also be seen with the new podcasters that are coming up on Spotify. Podcasts such as The Mettā PodcastSurviving Nairobi, and The Spread are just a few examples of shows rising in popularity that explore various genres. This latest report from Spotify comes just two months after the company announced its launching a new way for podcast creators to make money.

Its paid subscription platform is available through Anchor (owned by Spotify), where podcasters can mark select episodes as subscriber-only then publish them on Spotify or any other podcast platform. A lock-icon on the play button will show for such episodes.

Spotify plans to take a 5% cut for using the feature. The fee will go into effect from 2023.
