Safaricom MobiPlay Competition For Mobile Gamers Kicks off, playstations, smartphones and airtime up for grabs
Safaricom has kicked-off an online gaming competition for its customers using its Games Lounge service.
The 8-week Safaricom MobiPlay Challenge will see customers compete on simple puzzle, arcade and action games with daily and weekly prizes as well as a grand prize up for grabs.
Customers subscribed to the daily KES 10 Games Lounge bundle will receive a 50MB gaming pass to compete in daily and weekly challenges on the platform. The competition will run from 7th July 2020 to 4th September 2020, with 10 daily winners for 60 days, 5 weekly winners for 8 weeks and a grand prize winner.
“As entertainment choices become redefined by the changes brought about by social distancing, online gaming will continue to grow tremendously. It is on the back of this insight, as well as growing demand for relevant digital content, that we are working to augment our games lounge service to enable our customers remain entertained on the go,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.
Participants will accumulate points based how they complete the skill-based games, and they will be able to track their rank through a publicly available leaderboard. The top 10 players at the end of a day will win the daily prizes ranging from entry-level smartphones to airtime, while the top 5 players at the end of a week will win prizes including PlayStation 4 devices, smartphones and airtime. The grand prize of an iPhone 11 Pro Max is set to be won by the top-ranked player at the end of the competition.
Safaricom Games Lounge has been in existence since 2015 and is used by over 167,000 customers to access affordable premium mobile games, with puzzle and arcade games the most popular options. To purchase the daily KES 10 Games Lounge bundle, customers will dial *544*55#.
The Safaricom MobiPlay Challenge follows a successful e-sport competition ran by the telco in 2019, which saw over 900 gamers across the country participate in grassroots and regional console-based tournaments.
