TECNO Spark 5 Quick Thoughts
TECNO Spark 5 review: Tecno officially unveiled the Spark 5 in the market a week ago. The Spark Series is one of the most smartphone series from the company and was first introduced into the market back in 2018.
Since then, we have seen Tecno unveil the Spark 2, 3, 4 and now we have the spark 5.
We did a comparison article between the Spark 5 and the Spark 4 which you can read about here. Compared to the Spark 4, Tecno Spark 5 brings several upgrades as you would expect with every Smartphone successor in the market.
Well, the upgrades are not really that big. As we have mentioned in our comparison article, the most critical components have been upgraded a bit from the internal processor to the latest OS. Tecno also added more juice to the battery as well as an additional camera lens.
Check our Tecno Spark 5 unboxing video below:
Tecno Spark 5 comes with a 6.60-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720×1600 pixels. Tecno Spark 5 is powered by an octa-core processor. It comes with 2GB of RAM. The device runs Android 10 and is powered by a 5000mAh non-removable battery.
The device has not really changed from what we saw on the Spark 4 in terms of design.
The former featured a waterdrop notch while the latter comes with a punch hole in the display that houses the 8-megapixel front-facing camera keeping the phone as free of the bezel as possible to maximize the screen space. I am not a fan of notches so this makes me pretty excited.
The phone fits perfectly in your hands so you really won’t have to struggle so much using it. Unlike Spark 4, the Spark 5 is quite heavy. Most consumers had actually complained at how light the Spark 4 was.
At the back, Tecno decided to take a gradient turn with the colour. It’s also here that we have the four camera sensors consisting of a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/f/1.8 aperture; a second 2-megapixel camera; a third 2-megapixel camera and a fourth camera.
See the sample photos we took with the device below. More photos are available on our official TechTrendsKE Instagram page.(Click on the images to expand)
The fingerprint sensor is also at the back. It’s really easy to set up and also fast so there isn’t really much to say about it.
The speaker, MicroUSB port, Microphone and Headphone Jack are all at the bottom. The volume and power buttons are all on the right side while the opposite side houses separate slots for the two SIM cards and microSD card.
On performance, in comparison Spark 4 you, Tecno has kept almost everything the same. This only means we should be getting almost the same level of performance we saw on the Spark 4.
As we mentioned earlier, the most critical components have been upgraded a bit from the internal processor to the latest OS as well as the battery size. The memory, storage space, and chipset are all the same.
The Tecno Spark 5 runs HiOS 6.1 based on Android 10 and of course, with bigger battery size you should expect a longer battery life. I was able to average over 8 to 9 hours of screen-on-time for a day with lots of social media usage and few phone calls and texting.
