Michael Joseph Named Safaricom Interim CEO

Michael Joseph has been appointed interim Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom following Bob Collymore’s death yesterday.

A statement issued by Kathryne Maundu, Safaricom’s Company Secretary said reads  “Following the passing of the company’s CEO, at a Special Board meeting of the Directors, the board resolved to appoint Michael Joseph, a Board member of the Company as the interim CEO with immediate effect,”

Michael Joseph is the company’s former CEO, and currently serves as Chairman of Kenya Airways.

Joseph will hold this position until the Board communicates in due course, on a permanent appointment. ”The Board is confident that during this transition, Mr. Joseph will provide the necessary guidance and leadership to the Company and its employees” the statement reads.

Collymore passed on on Monday when he succumbed to cancer and he’s set to be buried at a private ceremony to be held on Tuesday.
