Safaricom Introduces Reverse Call Feature

Safaricom Kenya’s Telecom operator yesterday introduced a new Reverse Call feature which compliments their “Please Call Me” feature that lets customers send a maximum of five message requests to be called back in a day.

But the new reverse call feature makes it easier for you to call a number without airtime. Instead of having to incur the cost of calling a user transfers the cost to the receiver of the call.

How Safaricom Reverse Call Works

When calling a user inserts a #sign before the start of the receiver’s number. Like in case of 0722000000 you’ll dial #0722000000. The receiver will then be prompted to receive the call the usual way, but they will be prompted to press 1 to accept the call cost transfer to their line.

This option is only available for on-net calls other calls will not access this feature.

“At Safaricom, we maintain our commitment to always provide our customers with relevant products in line with their needs. This innovation is in line with this commitment and has been tailored to mirror the relationships between our customers with a goal of empowering them to always remain connected with their loved ones,” says Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom.

I’m hoping other networks do implement such a feature too.
