Huawei Mate 10 specs, price and availability in Kenya


The Huawei Mate 10 was officially launched into the Kenyan market last week, a month after it was unveiled in Munich Germany. The Mate 10 is the first to contain Huawei’s own artificial intelligence (AI) chip and retails at Ksh.80,000 on Jumia Kenya.

The device is the successor of the Mate 9 which featured Huawei’s own Kirin 960 CPU.

For Ksh.80,000, what does the Huawei Mate 10 has to offer? Well, the smartphone comes with a 5.90-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels at a PPI of 499 pixels per inch. Remember its predecessor the Mate 9 featured a 5.9-inch Full HD display. It measures 150.50 x 77.80 x 8.20 (height x width x thickness) and weigh 186.00 grams.

The Huawei Mate 10 is powered by  a1.8GHz octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. It packs 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Mate 10 packs a 20-megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies. Huawei has again partnered with Leica to co-engineer the dual-lens camera for Mate 10 and the upcoming Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

The device runs on Android 8.0 and is powered by a 4000mAh non-removable battery and supports 4.5V / 5A low-voltage fast charging, which Huawei says can power the device from 1 percent to 20 percent in 10 minutes, and from 1 percent to 58 percent in 30 minutes. Additionally, HUAWEI SuperCharge is the world’s first fast-charging technology to receive TÜV Fast-Charge Safety Certification.

The Huawei Mate 10 is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) . Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, Infrared, USB OTG, 3G and 4G. Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Gyroscope and Barometer.

Huawei is also planning to launch the Huawei Mate 10 Pro featuring a 6-inch screen with an 18:9 OLED display.  

As we mentioned the Huawei Mate 10 is currently only available on Jumia as part of the ongoing Jumia Black Friday but it should be available in Safaricom shops and open market stores across the country soon.
