Safaricom has partnered with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to launch Ziidi Trader. The new platform, embedded directly within the M-PESA Super App, allows millions of Kenyans to buy and sell listed shares and corporate bonds with the same ease as sending a mobile money payment.
The initiative marks a significant evolution of the Ziidi Investment Platform. Having already introduced Ziidi MMF for disciplined savings and Ziidi Shariah for compliant investing, Safaricom is now opening the doors to the capital markets.
This integration allows users to monitor portfolios and access market insights seamlessly, aiming to transform the stock market from an elite pursuit into an accessible tool for everyday wealth creation.
“Ziidi Trader is a powerful step in democratizing wealth for our customers,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC. “For eighteen years, M-PESA has transformed how Kenyans live, work and do business. Today, in partnership with the NSE, we are extending that impact to how our customers build and grow their wealth. Our ambition is to be a trusted partner in powering digital lifestyles, making investing simple, convenient and accessible to everyone, everywhere.”
Operating under the oversight of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), the platform prioritizes investor protection and transparency. To lower the barrier to entry, M-PESA customers can begin investing with as little as a single share. This accessibility is designed to align with Safaricom’s broader digitization agenda and the NSE’s goal to modernize market access for both local and international investors.
Frank Mwiti, CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting that “partnering with Safaricom is helping us bring the stock market closer to everyday Kenyans.” He further added, “By making NSE trading available through M-PESA, we are making it easier for more people, both locally and abroad to invest and play an active role in Kenya’s economic growth.”
Beyond equities, Ziidi Trader enables users to invest in corporate bonds, offering a diversified approach to portfolio management. The platform is now live under the “Financial Services” tab of the M-PESA App.
By combining Safaricom’s massive mobile reach with the NSE’s market expertise, the partnership seeks to foster long-term financial literacy and empower a new generation of investors to participate directly in the nation’s economic trajectory.
