Samsung makes an array of smartphones targeted at different types of consumers. Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone lineup covers everyone from the price-conscious ones to the enthusiast. The South Korean tech company has introduced two new devices for the conservative ones – the Samsung Galaxy A12 and A02S, both coming in 2021.
Samsung Galaxy A12
The Galaxy A12 succeeds the Galaxy A11S launched this year with a slightly bigger display, a larger battery, and souped-up cameras.
It sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display, a 5000mAh battery, an Octa-core processor, and the fingerprint sensor has been relocated to the side. The rear of the A12 is a quad-camera array lead by a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 5-megapixel ultrawide, a 2-megapixel macro, and another 2-megapixel sensor for depth sensing.
It retains the 8-megapixel selfie camera found in the preceding A11 still housed in a waterdrop notch.
Samsung Galaxy A02S
The cheapest latest Galaxy smartphone you can buy next year will be the A02S.
The phone is pretty conservative on the spec sheet to suit the asking price. Starting with the display, it measures 6.5-inches and has HD+ resolution like the A12.
But other than most of the other specs are downgraded from the A12. Galaxy A02S features 3GB of memory, 32GB of internal storage, a quad-camera array on the back (13MP + 2MP + 2MP), and there’s no fingerprint sensor.
Launch and Price
Samsung plans to release the duo come next year, starting with the Galaxy A12 in January then the A012S in February.
The Galaxy A12 will be retailing at around Ksh 21,000 for the 3GB/32GB model (very expensive, if you ask me) and Ksh 23,000 for the 6GB/128GB variant. On the other hand, the A02S will start at about Ksh 17,000.
(This pricing is for the European market. I expect the local price to vary, but the company will undoubtedly bring these two devices into the country.)
Predecessors to these two phones, the Galaxy A11 and A01, are both available in Kenya, going for Ksh 12,399 and Ksh 10,799, respectively.
The addition of Galaxy A12 and A02S will be needed to spice up Samsung’s offerings in Kenya’s entry-level smartphone market. These will be competing with TECNO’s Spark, Infinix’s HOT, and Vivo’s Y series phones.
