Jumia Food Festival campaign to support local restaurants

Jumia has announced the launch of a Food Festival Campaign to raise awareness of the difficulties the restaurant industry has been facing in the light of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

The campaign which will take place from 1st to 31st October has been organized in partnership with local restaurants, as well as blue chip international restaurant chains such as KFC, Burger King and McDonald’s.

As part of the festival, discounts of up to 50% and free delivery will be offered to consumers from participating restaurants for the entire month of October

“Our restaurant partners have been through tough times over the past few months and are still suffering from COVID-19 related response measures. The safest way to support our local restaurants & save jobs is to order online. We are launching the Food Festival campaign today with this in mind. We want to raise awareness of the difficulties our partners have faced, and the significant number of jobs that have been lost in the industry. But also do our part to help re-energize the sector and get people back to work. So we invite all customers to join in, order online & support your restaurants” said Sam Chappatte, Jumia Kenya CEO

COVID-19 has led to a worldwide increase in online shopping, with many consumers making their first online purchases during this pandemic; a research study conducted by Nielsen found a jump of 30% of online consumers in Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya during the lockdown period.

“As a business, we sincerely appreciate our partner Jumia Food for putting our business on the map and giving us visibility to many consumers during Covid-19 period. 60% of our growth in Kenya is attributed to Jumia Food – in particular their aggressive marketing & continuous support.” said James Ouma, Franchise Manager, Debonairs Pizza, Kenya.

Customers who participate in the Food Festival will see deals from hundreds of restaurants and also benefit from affordable and convenient delivery options from supermarkets, pharmacies and water and gas cylinder refill services. Average delivery times on Jumia Food are 30 minutes.

The Food Festival will be held in the 8 countries where Jumia Food operates (Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda).

Jumia hopes that this campaign will encourage customers to support their restaurants and order more food online.
