Facebook Dating Service Officially Launched

After tipping its entry into the dating industry last year, Facebook has officially launched its dating platform dubbed Facebook Dating. The feature rolled out yesterday in the US and 19 other countries.

“Facebook Dating makes it easier to find love through what you like — helping you start meaningful relationships through things you have in common, like interests, events, and groups,” Nathan Sharp, Product Manager, Facebook Dating wrote in a blog post.

Facebook Dating is an opt-in feature integrated into the main app so users can join if they want to.

According to the company, the feature is available to users with a minimum age of 18 years and is only available on Facebook’s recent version. Facebook will use the information on your profile, such as your interests and preferences that you showcase on the main platform to suggest potential profile that matches your taste. If that takes forever, don’t panic, you can still comment or like on a ‘crush’ profile to let them know.

Facebook says it will suggest you with other users who have joined the platform. Besides, you won’t be matched with a person on your friends’ list on the main app “unless you choose to use Secret Crush and you both add each other to your list.”

Secret Crush

You can also share your Instagram posts and Stories on Facebook Dating, although the ability to share Instagram stories will be available by the end of the year. With Facebook Dating, the company promises all user activity will remain on the dating platform and not shared in Facebook’s main app or Instagram.

Availability

Apart from the US, Facebook Dating is currently available in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam. The company says Europe will be next in early 2020.
