Suicidal thoughts are the worst thing we would want any of our family members or friends to go through. Most of the time we are always not there when they go through this, and we are left with very little options. Facebook says the tool will offer people from around the word who may be experiencing self-injury or suicidal thoughts,as well as the support users offer to their concerned friends and family members.
With this tool, users will now be able to flag a friend’s Facebook post from a drop-down menu if they are concerned about suicide or self-harm. Facebook also goes ahead to give users several options which include numbers of suicide prevention organisations. You can also reach out to them directly or report to Facebook’s team who view reports that come in. The team prioritize the most serious reports that come in like self injury.
Acording to the company’s global head of safety Antigone Davis and researcher Jennifer Guadagno, the tool has been developed in collaboration with mental health organizations and with the input from people who have personal experience with self-injury and suicide, these tools first launched in the US with the help of Forefront, Lifeline, and Save.org
Some users in the United States reported seeing the tool as early as last year with the help of the three organisations Facebook is working with in implimenting this tool, Forefront, Lifeline and Save.org .
Facebook said its suicide prevention resources will be available in all languages supported by the platform
