Review: Infinix ZERO 3, the camera Hero

Infinix Zero 3 is the latest smartphone from Infinix Mobility that is priding itself in the emerging smartphone market. It is also the successor of the Zero 2 and was launched in the country last month. The Zero three indeed came a time when most smartphone users in Kenya and even the entire Africa want a mix of value and affordability.

For the past few weeks I have been interacting with the Zero 3 and from the specifications and performance, the phone is quite something.

Of course one of the things that makes the phone stand out is the 20.7MP camera manufactured by Sony. It is one of the greatest talking points of this phonE. Remember the Zero 2 camera was manufactured by Samsung but I guess this time round Infinix Mobility thought partnering with Sony, which is the industry leader would make more sense, and it really worked for them.

Well, that aside, let’s look deep into the Zero 3 with this Review. Is it a smartphone one should consider?

Design and Display
The Zero 3 comes with a minimalistic exterior made with a stainless still frame and diamond texture, making it really look good. It also has a great 5.5 inch Full HD screen with a 400ppi (1080P) pixel density. It also features IPS technology enabling 178°wide viewing angle.

Capture3

Most Smartphone users are looking for such screen sizes mainly for gaming, watching movies and any other videos. The screen is also protected by a super tough Coming Gorilla Glass for unrivalled scratch resistant and high light transmittance. This gives users greater clarity for tasks like gaming and videos.

When it comes to weight, the Zero 3 weighs just 120g with a dimension of 154×76.7×7.85 mm.

Camera

As I mentioned earlier, the 20.7MP rear camera has been one of the most talking points of the Zero 3. I remember before the launch, after getting the Phone from Infinix I asked TechTrendsKE readers what they would do with a 20.7MP camera and their responses were so much overwhelming. The 20.7MP rear camera with SONY IMX230 CMOS sensor exceeds expectations with enhanced light sensitivity paired with dual LED flash and the photos are really amazing.

Watch this video see me perform some tasks with the Zero 3 camera.

The camera comes with load software such as HDR, touch capture, voice, slow motion, gesture shot and 4K video recording allowing better capture experience.

The front camera, on the other hand, is 5.0MP with LED flash for selfie lovers and the capture experience is also amazing. The camera features BSI photosensitive components and 1.4um larger pixel capabilities.

How is better, Fast and Strong the Zero 3?

Everyone is looking out for a phone with a faster and smooth performance. Powered by a Real 64-bit Octa-Core processor which clocks in at 2.20GHz for a benchmark score of 50000+, the Zero 3 also has a 3 GB RAM giving users a smooth performance.

I remember downloading several games and the performance was quite interesting. (Watch the performance in this video review) With the aid of its CPU, this combo processes so many apps simultaneously for smoother operations and better gaming and video streaming experiences.

The 64-bit chip is also paired with ample 3 GB of RAM giving users high responsiveness when using multiple apps at the same time.

Other features include a high-speed 3G connectivity for download speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Connectivity options also include microUSB 2.0 port, Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct and Hotspot

Battery

The Infinix Zero 3 comes with a 3030mAh large-capacity battery that utilizes 4.4V high-voltage batteries from the world renowned manufacturer ATL. The non-removable battery features a long-lasting power with an energy density of up to 643WH/L.

If you are high battery user you might, however, have problems with the Zero 3 due to the fact that it drains the battery really fast. You might be lucky if the battery decides to take you the entire day, this if of course if you decide not use spend most of your time online with the phone. I remember having to charge it at least twice a day just to be sure the phone would actually take me the entire day.

The Ultra Power saving mode, however, comes in handy when the battery is running low. The feature enables you to close the apps that consume the most power.

Smart Operating Modes

It is also important to mention the features Smart Power Management with multiple operating modes the Zero 3 comes with. They include the High-Performance mode with increases CPU output, the Normal mode that offers a balanced output for regular usage and the Power saving mode that lowers power output to extend standby mode.

Conclusion

The Infinix Zero 3 is a phone I would recommend to anyone planning to upgrade his Smartphone. The fast performance and different features the phone comes with gives it an edge on the other smartphones in the market.
With the amazing specs, you would expect the phone to retail at not less than Ksh.30-35,000, but the phone actually retails at Ksh.18,500, pocket-friendly, right?

One thing though that Infinix need to work on their future smartphones is the battery. The challenges that phone comes with are devastating at times. For example, the phone really overheats when used for longer periods.

  1. If you’re buying the Zero 3, chances are that the 20.7MP camera was the first attraction. In the camera department, Infinix Zero 3 didn’t disappoint. The SONY Exmor R™ IMX230 sensor delivers great pictures and the dual LED flash too helps low-light photography. If we compare this model with that https://jiji.ng/mobile-phones/infinix-zero-2-x509 , the first is definitely better.
