OPPO Reno 2F Review: The OPPO Reno 2F with a pop-up selfie camera is now official. The device was launched in Kenya towards the end of November 2019 and is available for Ksh. 39,999. The OPPO Reno 2F is an addition to the OPPO Reno series that was unveiled earlier this year.
The OPPO Reno 2F features some upgrades on the front camera but still upholds the Reno design. We did the unboxing video for you which you can check below. At the price, the OPPO Reno 2F is a good camera phone, really pretty design and massive storage.
We managed to get a review unit, thanks to the good people at OPPO Kenya. We made it our primary phone for about two weeks. Here are our quick thoughts.
Design and Display
As we mentioned earlier the OPPO Reno 2F upholds the same design we saw on the OPPO Reno 2. The phone comes with a 6.53-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1,080×2,340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It measures 161.80 x 75.80 x 8.67mm (height x width x thickness). The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and has no notch (This makes me excited, never been a fan of notches) and the chin is slightly thicker than what we saw on the OPPO Reno 2, but that shouldn’t be really a bother.
The display is FHD+AMOLED – the colour production is accurate and really good, just as you would expect with AMOLED panels. You also not struggle while using the sun under direct sunlight and the lack of a notch means you have the entire display to yourself for all your media consumption.
At the back is where we have the cameras stacked vertically at the centre. It is also here that we have a tiny node or the Ceramic O.Dot as OPPO calls it. It located just above the camera.
The O-Dot slightly lift the phone off the ground to protect the rear and cameras from scratches and scrapes. The OPPO Reno 2F back is also protected by a Gorilla Glass 5.
On the left is where you can find the volume rocker, while the dual SIM tray and the power button are all on the right side. If you’re used to the power and volume buttons being on the right then you will have a hard time adjusting. The power button is highlighted with a green strip. You won’t have a problem using these buttons, they are all clicky and easy to reach.
The bottom houses the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port and a single downward-firing speaker whose audio quality is really pleasant. There are no distortions even when set at the maximum volume. Of course, using a pair of earphones is always recommended.
Specs and Performance
The OPPO Reno 2F is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P70 processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Oppo Reno 2F runs Android Pie and is powered by a 4000mAh battery that will easily get you through a full day. It also supports VOOC fast charging and charging the battery from 0-100% takes around 1 hour, impressive if you ask me. The overall battery performance is also quite good.
The Oppo Reno 2F runs ColorOS 6,1 based on Android Pie. The app arrangement is just similar. We are of course getting Google apps out of the box and also some OPPO apps like Game Space, Game Center, Clone Phone, Opera News, Opera.
The device executes basic tasks really well, no lags or anything whether you’re browsing through social media, taking photos, navigation etc. The gaming experience is also pretty good.
The biometrics options which include the under-display fingerprint scanner and the face unlock are very fast and secure. There’s however a slight delay with the face unlock. The camera module needs to pop-up first before it can scan your face and unlock the device.
OPPO Reno 2F Camera
As far as the cameras are concerned, the OPPO Reno 2F packs a quad-rear camera setup comprising of a 48-megapixel primary camera; a second 8-megapixel camera; a third 2-megapixel camera and a fourth 2-megapixel camera on the rear. The selfie camera which is located inside the pop-up mechanism is 16-megapixel.
There’s so much we can say about the camera but we will spare that for a camera review we will publish once we are done with this. OPPO Reno 2F Review Thoughts
Well the OPPO Reno 2F is a good device, an eye-catching design, good battery life, good cameras and of course the notch-less display which we really loved. There are just so many things to like about the device.
The display is also pretty decent for a phone of this price. The ColorOS also comes with some good improvements which I like. The OPPO Reno 2F, however, faces some serious competition from devices like the Vivo V17 Pro that was also launched into the Kenyan market. The phone offers almost similar specs and is priced almost the same as the Reno 2F.
