HMD Global launches its cheapest device in Kenya, The Nokia 2 for Kshs.11,000


HMD Global has announced that The Nokia 2, its cheapest Android device is now available for purchase in Kenya. The low-cost device was first launched globally on November 1st  and according to HMD Global, it promises two-days of battery life on a single charge.

“We have created a smartphone people can rely on without subconsciously rationing their battery usage to last the day. Every component of the Nokia 2 – from the display to battery, chipset to system design – has been engineered to draw as little power as possible from the huge battery. You don’t have to do less with it to preserve longevity, it has been built to give you the freedom to do more.”  Gopher Ogembo, Senior Business Manager, HMD Global, said.

The Nokia 2 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and sports a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) LTPS In-Cell Touch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC (quad-core, clocked up to 1.2GHz) coupled with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM.  It also sports an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front fixed focus camera.

In terms of storage, the Nokia 2 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery, which is the key highlight of the device is 4100 mAh battery.

The Nokia 2 will be available in Kenya through Safaricom and other Retail outlets starting today, 04 December 2017 for Kshs.11,000.  It comes in two colours – Pewter/Black and Pewter/White.
