Drake and Sauti Sol are the most streamed artists on Spotify in Kenya
Audio streaming platform launched in Kenya and other African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda a month ago.
Data from Spotify’s first month in Kenya shows that music fans from all over the country are tuned in to global music trends yet cannot seem to get enough of Sauti Sol.
The data shows that Drake and Sauti Sol were the top streamed artists in the country. Drake landed the number one spot in the top-streamed artist’s category, with Sauti Sol coming second. Cardi B’s ”Up“ is the most streamed track on Spotify in Kenya in the first 30 days, followed by Drake with “What’s Next“ and 6LACK and Lil Tjay’s “Calling My Phone”.
Today’s Top Hits is the most popular playlist in the first month after launch, reflecting how Kenyans are starting off strong by listening to musicians and tracks from around the globe. The second most listened to playlist is “RapCaviar,” followed by “Mood Booster” and “African Heat”, which features prominent Kenyan artists such as Blinky Bill, Bensoul and Nyashinski.
When it comes to podcast consumption, Spotify Originals and Exclusives seem to resonate with listeners in Kenya with The Joe Rogan Experience coming in first and President Obama’s podcast with Bruce Springsteen Renegades: Born in the USA taking fourth place.
