Instagram wants to change your feed; Introduces algorithm

Remember when Twitter once announced that it was adding an algorithm? It did not go quite well with most Twitter users, and they even went ahead killing the micro-blogging site online under the hashtag #RIPTwitter. Well, it looks like Instagram has decided to adopt the same algorithm.

The photo sharing app has apparently decided to add an algorithm which will rank posts and show you what it “believes you care about the most”.

”To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most.” The company confirmed this in a blog post.

What this means according to Instagram, the order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.

Instagram adds that an average person misses 70% of their feed, of course this is due to so much content being posted every minute.

Instagram currently orders posts from most recent to oldest in a timeline and it will be interesting to see how users are going to react to this. Just recently, the Instagram also added a feature that allows users to switch between multiple accounts.
