M-PESA Ethiopia and Gebeya Launch Dala AI Bundle to Democratize AI

M-PESA Ethiopia and Gebeya Inc. have announced the launch of the Dala AI Bundle. This first-of-its-kind subscription service allows Ethiopians to access and pay for advanced AI creation tools directly through their M-PESA wallets, effectively removing the traditional barrier of credit card requirements.

The partnership represents a significant milestone: the first time an African mobile money operator has bundled AI-powered tools as a mainstream consumer product. By integrating these capabilities into the nation’s fastest-growing mobile financial service, the collaboration brings high-level technology to anyone with a mobile phone, from urban students to rural merchants.

The Dala AI Bundle is specifically designed to empower Ethiopian builders and entrepreneurs. Through Dala Studio’s platform, users can now access tools for app building, AI Agent creation, game development, and comic generation. Crucially, these tools support content creation in local languages, including Amharic and Oromo, ensuring the technology is culturally and linguistically relevant.

Amadou Daffe, CEO of Gebeya Inc., emphasized that the initiative is about more than just software; it is about digital sovereignty.

“We’re not just adding another product, we’re handing the keys of building and creation to every Ethiopian with a mobile phone,” Daffe stated. “A student in Addis, a merchant in Bahir Dar, a storyteller in Hawassa, all can now create digital assets in their own language. This is how Africa’s AI future gets built: by Africans, for Africans.”

For M-PESA, this launch marks a strategic evolution from a simple payment provider to a comprehensive gateway for digital services. Elsa Muzzolini, CEO of M-PESA Ethiopia, noted that the partnership leverages the deep trust Ethiopians already have in the M-PESA platform to introduce complex new technologies.

The Dala AI Bundle builds upon a pre-existing relationship between the two companies via the Safaricom Talent Cloud, which has already trained thousands of local developers. This new offering shifts the focus from professional training to direct consumer access, allowing millions of users to participate in the global AI revolution.
