The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across all 290 constituencies starting Monday, January 12, 2026.
The drive is part of the commission’s strategic roadmap to enlist 6.3 million new voters before the 2027 General Election. IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon stated that the commission is particularly targeting the youth, who are expected to make up 70% of the new registrants.
Where to Register or Update Details
Kenyans can access registration services at designated centers during official working hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM):
- Constituency Offices: Located at every sub-county headquarters nationwide.
- Huduma Centres: Select centers will have dedicated IEBC desks for registration and transfers.
- IEBC County Offices: For those needing specialized assistance or regional transfers.
Requirements for Registration
To ensure a smooth process, the commission has outlined the following mandatory requirements:
- Original National ID Card (Must be valid; waiting slips are not accepted).
- Valid Kenyan Passport (For those without an ID).
- Physical Presence: Biometric data – including fingerprints, facial photos, and the newly integrated Iris recognition – must be captured in person.
Services Offered
The CVR exercise is not limited to new voters. The following services are available to all citizens:
- New Enrolment: For citizens who have recently turned 18.
- Transfer of Voting Station: For voters who wish to move their polling station to a more convenient location.
- Update of Particulars: To correct errors in names or other personal details.
- Verification: To check registration status in the Integrated Database Management System (IDMS).
Strengthening Electoral Integrity
This year, the IEBC has enhanced its biometric system by incorporating Iris Recognition. This move is intended to provide a secondary layer of identification, ensuring that no eligible voter is locked out due to failed fingerprint recognition.
Chairperson Ethekon urged the public to take advantage of this period to avoid the last-minute rush usually seen months before an election. “We have an open-door policy and remain committed to ensuring every Kenyan has a fair opportunity to exercise their democratic right,” he said.
