Epson EB-W55 Projector Review: Epson launched a new line of business projectors designed to deliver flexible, large-scale visuals without compromising on quality back in July. The line-up included seven models – EB-E12, EB-E24, EB-X52, EB-W53, EB-W55, EB-FH54, and EB-W56S.
Engineered for mobility and scalability, these projectors are compact, lightweight, and easy to install or reposition, offering a cost-effective alternative to flat panel displays over 100 inches.
We got our hands on the EB-W55, and with brightness levels up to 4,100 lumens and Epson’s signature 3LCD technology, this projector gives users vivid, accurate colors and sharp detail, even in well-lit environments.
The Epson EB-W55 enters a competitive market of business and home projectors, promising brilliant image quality, robust connectivity, and the convenience of built-in Wi-Fi. Designed for versatility, it aims to serve equally well in a conference room for a critical presentation or in a living room for a movie night. We take a closer look to see if this projector lives up to its promises.

Design and Build
The Epson EB-W55 sports a clean, functional design typical of Epson projectors. Its white chassis is compact and relatively lightweight, making it portable enough to be moved between rooms or taken on the road without much hassle. The build quality feels solid and durable, capable of withstanding the rigors of frequent transport.
On the top, you’ll find easy-to-access controls for power, menu navigation, and source selection, along with manual focus and zoom rings that are smooth to operate. The placement of vents is optimized for efficient cooling, which is crucial for lamp longevity.
Image Quality and Performance

Where the EB-W55 truly shines is in its image quality. Leveraging Epson’s 3LCD technology, it delivers a vibrant and color-accurate picture. The 3,700 lumens of brightness are more than sufficient to produce a clear and easily viewable image even in well-lit rooms, a common scenario in office environments. This means you don’t have to dim the lights completely to get a punchy, engaging presentation.
The native WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution is the standard for business presentations, offering crisp text and clear graphics from laptops. While it’s not Full HD, it performs admirably for video content, making it a viable option for casual home entertainment. The 16,000:1 contrast ratio provides decent depth to images, with blacks appearing reasonably deep and whites remaining bright.
Setting up the image is straightforward, thanks to automatic vertical and manual horizontal keystone correction, which helps to quickly achieve a perfectly rectangular image even if the projector is placed off-center.
Connectivity and Wireless Functionality

Connectivity is a major strength of the EB-W55. It covers all the essential bases with HDMI USB-A, USB-B, and composite inputs, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices, from modern laptops to legacy equipment.
The headline feature, however, is the built-in Wi-Fi and Miracast support. This allows for seamless wireless screen mirroring from laptops, smartphones, and tablets without the need for cables. Using the Epson iProjection app, setup is relatively simple. We found the wireless connection to be stable for static content like presentations and photos. For high-bandwidth video streaming, a wired HDMI connection is still recommended for the smoothest playback, but for its intended business use, the wireless feature is a significant advantage.
Ease of Use and Features

Epson has designed this projector to be user-friendly from the moment you take it out of the box. The on-screen menu is intuitive and easy to navigate with the included remote control.
The projector’s lamp life is another standout feature. With up to 17,000 hours in Eco Mode, the EB-W55 promises a low total cost of ownership, as lamp replacements will be infrequent. The built-in 2W speaker is functional for small meeting rooms, but for any media-rich presentation or movie watching, connecting to external speakers is recommended for a better audio experience.
Verdict

The Epson EB-W55 is a powerful and versatile projector that excels in a professional environment but is flexible enough for home use. Its high brightness, excellent color reproduction, and comprehensive connectivity options, especially the reliable built-in Wi-Fi—make it a standout choice. While it may not be a dedicated home theater projector, its performance is more than satisfactory for casual movie nights.
For businesses, schools, and professionals looking for a reliable, bright, and easy-to-use projector with modern wireless capabilities, the Epson EB-W55 offers excellent value and is a highly recommended workhorse.
