Airtel, CFSK train teachers in Machakos on Internet for Schools program

Airtel Kenya has partnered with Computer for Schools (CFSK) to train teachers from Machakos County on Internet for Schools program.

The training workshop which took place yesterday at a hotel in Machakos town sought to train teachers from thirty schools from the County on how to use data devices provided by Airtel through the company’s community flagship program Internet for Schools to develop e-content and access educational content online.

The teachers from the thirty schools received data devices from Airtel which will be connected to their computer laboratories, allowing students from these schools to have free 24 hours internet connectivity hence enabling them to unlimited amount of relevant educational information available online.

“Free internet connectivity through our Internet for Schools program continues to enable more and more students to have access to the latest and relevant information that help them to compete on international levels. The next training is scheduled for next week in Embu County as we continue to work together with CFSK in promoting ICT integration in Schools across the country. We have so far connected 187 schools across the country impacting over 180,000 students to-date, with a plan to connect at least 1 million students to the internet.” Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said.

“Access to the internet and ICT technology has become a vital part of students’ education in recent times. Allowing students to have access to digital learning will be a huge step towards helping more schools to embrace e-learning. As CFSK, we are committed to work with our partners Airtel to stretch this training workshop to more schools across the country,” said Computer for Schools Founding Director Dr. Tom Musili.

In July this year, Airtel provided used computers to Computer for Schools (CFSK) for refurbishment and distribution to schools across the country. This was part of the two organizations’ effort to improve access to modern technology and quality education in learning institutions. CFSK refurbished the computers and made them available to schools which are part of the organization’s program.
