Oracle Kenya last week held its annual Cloud Day event at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. The event attracted customers; partners, stakeholders and government officials from various industries to discuss how Cloud is transforming business today.
According to Oracle, the event sought to bring together private and public sector players, creating a platform for networking with experts and business peers, in the form of themed tracks/sessions with unique agendas that focus on various aspects of cloud.
“Technology isn’t new in powering business, but is evolving constantly and rapidly. How businesses use this transformative technology will set them apart from their competitors.” Dr Gilbert Saggia, Oracle Kenya country manager said. “The CEO’s focus should remain on innovation and agility to remain ahead of the competition,”
“Our focus is to remove the complexity, to simplify IT and provide the most comprehensive cloud offering.” He added.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to learn how to reduce risk and complexity in their businesses by using the most comprehensive, secure Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud offerings on the market. They also learnt ways to shorten the innovation cycle and accelerate time to market with boosted agility and increased reliability as well as how to transform their businesses with cloud computing.
“Today, the cost of technology is no longer considered an issue for any company that wants to use IT to drive business innovation,” Dr Saggia said. “CEOs need to strive for agility irrespective of the size of their organization; to remain progressive and forward-thinking, despite how they may perceive their company today in an ever-changing competitive landscape; and to have a team that is really focused on using IT as an innovation driver in every part of their business.”
Oracle Cloud Day Kenya also hosted a graduation ceremony with the Kenya ICT Authority.Through the Presidential Digital Talent Program 48 university graduates were trained on Java Programming, Database and Oracle Financials. The objective of the training, which is part of the Oracle Workforce Development Program, is to empower these graduates by upskilling them, making them more attractive to potential employers and increasing the IT skills pool in the emerging IT sector.
“Now in its fourth year, Oracle Cloud Day, formerly Oracle Day, has been a tremendous success in Kenya and provided a valuable opportunity for our customers, partners and prospects to gain insight into the technologies that are transforming business,” concluded Dr Saggia
He added that in the cloud they are seeing a generational shift in computing as significant as the shift to personal computing was forty years ago
