Samsung is expanding its Certified Re-Newed program to include foldable devices for the first time — beginning with the Galaxy Z Fold5 Certified Renewed and Galaxy Z Flip5 Certified Renewed, both now available exclusively on Samsung.com.
The move follows growing interest in Samsung’s foldable series since the original Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 were unveiled in July 2023. At launch, Samsung hosted a viewer event in Nairobi, showcasing the devices alongside the Tab S9 and new Galaxy Watches. In Kenya, the Galaxy Z Fold5 debuted at KES 325,000, while the Z Flip5 came in at KES 193,000.
With the Certified Renewed rollout, Samsung is now offering the Fold5 and Flip5 at a reduced price, giving first-time foldable users a more affordable entry point without sacrificing warranty or quality.
A Like-New Experience Backed by Samsung
Each Certified Renewed device is refurbished by Samsung engineers using 100% genuine Samsung parts. Units receive a certified new battery and undergo a multi-point inspection before resale. Samsung backs every device with a full one-year manufacturer’s warranty, offering assurance similar to buying brand new.
The Galaxy Z Fold5 Certified Renewed starts at $1,169 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB model. The device is available in Phantom Black. The foldable features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with support for Multi Window, along with a long-lasting battery in a slim, lightweight body.
Original Specs Still Intact
The Galaxy Z Fold5 retains its flagship specs even in renewed form. The device includes:
- 12GB RAM, up to 1TB storage (original configuration)
- Triple-camera rear setup (50MP + 12MP ultra-wide + 10MP telephoto)
- Android 13-based OneUI 5.1.1 (at launch), with ongoing OS upgrades and security updates
- 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired and wireless charging support
The Galaxy Z Flip5, also part of the program, includes 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, plus a 3,700mAh battery. While its specs are slightly more compact, it offers a 6.7-inch AMOLED main screen and a redesigned 3.4-inch cover display.
Refurbished with Sustainability in Mind
Both phones were originally built using higher levels of recycled materials than previous generations, including recycled glass, plastic, and aluminum. Samsung’s Certified Renewed initiative extends the life cycle of these devices further — reinforcing the company’s sustainability and product longevity goals.
Availability
The renewed foldables are now available on Samsung.com in select markets. While Kenyan pricing for the renewed versions has not yet been announced, the launch is expected to follow global rollout trends.
For consumers who may have been hesitant to invest in a new foldable at full price, the Galaxy Z Fold5 Certified Renewed and Flip5 Certified Renewed now offer a lower-cost path backed by Samsung’s own quality assurance.
