Bolt, Kenya’s leading ride-hailing platform, on Monday held a safety training summit for drivers and couriers on its platform.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Police Service (NPS), and the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG), aimed to promote safer urban mobility and strengthen cooperation between private and public transport stakeholders.
The summit featured expert-led sessions focused on key areas, including adherence to traffic regulations, behavioural change, personal security, optimal app usage, professional conduct, and basic first aid. The training also emphasised innovations like helmet use and emergency response tools to improve overall safety for riders, drivers, and couriers.
“Safety remains our top priority,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager, Rides, Kenya at Bolt. “We are committed to investing in technologies and partnerships that enhance the safety of our users. This summit empowers our driver and courier partners with the tools and knowledge they need to operate safely and professionally.”
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ibrahim Nyangoya, CECM for Mobility and Works, Nairobi County, highlighted the growing role of app-based mobility in the city. “This summit reflects the kind of holistic thinking we need to reshape how Nairobi moves,” he said. “Safety is not just about enforcement—it’s about creating a culture of responsibility. We commend Bolt for taking the lead in this crucial space.”
Dr. Frederick Ochieng, Traffic Commandant, Nairobi Police Service, emphasised the urgency of safety awareness: “Safe driving saves lives. Our partnership with Bolt helps elevate safety standards through both enforcement and education.”
Mr. Samuel Musumba, NTSA’s Manager for Road Safety Programs, reiterated the agency’s national goals: “We aim to reduce road deaths by 50% by year-end. Achieving this requires genuine collaboration. We commend Bolt for stepping forward and playing an active role.”
In addition to the training, Bolt recognised top-performing couriers on its Bolt Food platform, acknowledging their dedication to service quality and professionalism.
This safety training summit forms part of Bolt’s broader commitment to building a safer, more reliable ride-hailing ecosystem across Kenya, one that prioritises user trust, driver welfare, and regulatory alignment.
