A look at the New Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL


Yesterday Microsoft unveiled its first Windows 10 Smartphones together with a range of other new devices to try beat the ever growing competitive mobile market. The two premium Lumia smartphones, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL are the newest premium phones from Microsoft and take aim at other competitors like the iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S6.

 In July, Microsoft unveiled Windows ten and chief executive Satya Nadella was even in Kenya to join Kenyans in the launch. The launch of this new Lumia devices is there a step on the company to build on the Windows 10 launch which Microsoft said is now running on 110 million devices around the world.

During the launch even of these new devices in New York, Nadella said “We now begin a new chapter of Windows 10 with new devices built for Windows 10,”

“What matters most is the mobility of your experience more than the mobility of any specific device.”

The Lumia 950 features a larger 5.2-inch display with WQHD OLED panels, Gorilla Glass 3 and according to Microsoft, this display comes with additional features like orientation sensor, Sunlight readability enhancements. TheLumia 950 XL on the other hand has a larger 5.7-inch screen.

The Lumia 950 runs on the Snapdragon hexa-core 808 processor with 3GB RAM and will only come in 32GB internal storage space options. This can however be supportd by an additional 200 GB using a microSD. 

In terms of Camera, the Lumia 950 comes with a ,20-megapixel sensors, triple LED natural flash and 4K video capture which Microsoft says will enable faster focus and crisper images and videos even in challenging conditions.

With Continuum capability for phones enhanced by the new Microsoft Display Dock accessory, you can connect the Lumia 950 phone to a monitor and transform it for larger-screen entertainment, or add a keyboard and mouse to work like a PC with Windows 10 apps like Microsoft Office, while simultaneously taking calls or performing other tasks. Speaking during the event, Panos Panay, corporate vice president for Microsoft’s Surface division said there aim is to bring Windows 10 to life in consumers pockets.

The Lumia 950 will retail at $549 and 950 XL at $649 and both are expected to hit stores in November.
