President Ruto Nominates Former Kiambu Governor Kabogo To ICT Docket

President William Ruto has nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo for appointment as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy in yet another cabinet reshuffle.

Upon approval by parliament, Kabogo, allied to former president Uhuru Kenyatta, will take over from the current ICT and Digital Economy CS Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u who has also been nominated as High Commissioner to Ghana.

CS Ndung’u, who has served in the ICT docket for four months now took over from former ICT CS Eliud Owalo who currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff incharge of performance and delivery management in the executive office of the president.

The nominations were announced in a detailed circular signed by Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff, Felix Koskei.

The reshuffle is part of President Ruto’s plan to re-align Ministries, State Departments and Kenya’s Foreign Service to optimise performance and enhance service delivery as set out in the Administration’s Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Notably, Mutahi Kagwe who once served as Health CS in Uhuru’s regime has also been nominated to serve as the CS in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

In the same reshuffle, President Ruto has also nominated former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui to head the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry which was under the leadership of Salim Mvurya who has been redeployed to serve in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.

Additionally, Kipchumba Murkomen who previously served as the CS for Roads, Transport, and Public Works before being moved to the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Ministry during the second cabinet reshuffle, has also been redeployed to the crucial Interior Docket.

The Ministry was left vacant after the ascension of Kithure Kindiki to the role of Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua in October.

At the same time, Ababu Namwamba has been nominated to serve as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to UNEP and the United Nations Office at Nairobi with Ambassador Dorothy Angote nominated as the High Commissioner of Zimbabwe and Agriculture CS Andrew Karanja nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil.

State Corporations have also seen appointments of new chairpersons with Ndiritu Muriithi appointed to Chair the Kenya Revenue Authority, Anthony Mwaura appointed as Chairperson of Kenya Rural Roads Authority and Kembi Gitura to serve as Chairperson at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.

Being the third time President Ruto is making changes to his cabinet, this comes 10 days after he met with his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta in Gatundu.

Koskei has confirmed that the President had forwarded the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, in line with constitutional requirements.

“These nominations, reassignments, and appointments underscore the President’s commitment to aligning government operations with the needs of Kenyans,” Koskei said.
