Google is Testing a Play Store Feature to Warn Users About Subpar Apps

This new feature aligns with Google's continuous efforts to improve the Play Store's user experience and app quality.

Google is testing a new feature for the Play Store to ensure users download the best-quality apps and avoid low-quality apps by warning them if they are subpar.

Google is working on improving the user experience and promoting higher app standards for users and developers. the tech giant will display warnings for apps with high uninstall rates, few active users, or low engagement compared to similar apps. The warning messages will include “Play has limited user data about this app”,  “frequently uninstalled compared to similar apps on Play” or “This app has few active users compared to others on Play” warning.

Google Play Store will put these warnings on the app details pages.

These warnings will help users avoid low-quality apps especially those with deceptive practices and poor development. This feature also motivates developers to build high-standard apps so that their apps don’t get this warning.

The apps’ warnings are designed to help users, particularly those with limited data or slow connections, make better choices about downloads and to guide less tech-savvy individuals away from potentially disappointing apps.

Other features Google is working on for the Play Store include a filter for apps linking to external apps. The company has also moved the Install button to a fixed header for quicker access.

It’s worth noting that these warnings are not definitive judgments of the app’s quality as some apps have niche uses or are single-purpose apps and will have fewer users.

However, since these features are still in development, there is no guarantee it will be publicly released. Fingers crossed that they do.

Despite Google’s efforts to eliminate harmful apps, some still manage to evade detection, so it’s crucial to remain vigilant when downloading. Here are some essential tips for your protection.
