Entry-level smartphones are becoming more affordable in Kenya currently as manufacturers try to scramble for a share of the market. Infinix has always been one of the biggest players in this market and it just added a new device to this segment – the Infinix Smart 7 Plus.
Infinix Smart 7 Plus is quite an interesting device for Ksh.13,000 featuring some interesting specs. At that price, Infinix is offering you an octa-core CPU, high RAM, more storage capacity, quite a huge battery, USB Type-C port, among other appealing features.
We have spent a few weeks with the device and in this article, we will be sharing some of the interesting things you need to know about it. If you’re in the market for an entry-level phone, these features should make it worth considering.
6000mAh battery
Hear me out. This is probably one of the best things about this phone. 6,000mAh and to top it up, Infinix has also added a USB Type-C charger. What more would you ask for? This battery is a powerhouse.
I mean, battery endurance is one thing we all want when it comes to our favorite gadgets. There are a ton of devices out in the market, but when it comes to battery endurance, very few phones have the stamina to power the device for a full day, not the Infinix Smart 7 Plus though.
Even with heavy usage, the battery is able to take you for 3 days. The downside though is the 10W charger that Infinix has added in the box. Charging the phone’s battery from zero to 100% takes you over three hours. I wouldn’t complain here though if after being fully charged, I won’t have to worry about running out of juice for two-three days.
Cameras
When it comes to the optics, the cameras on the Infinix Smart 7 Plus are good enough for your usual use. I mean, this is a Ksh.13k phone so of course you shouldn’t expect much, but again, they don’t disappoint.
Unlike the 8-megapixel main sensor that we saw on the earlier model, the camera on the Infinix Smart 7 Plus has been upgraded to 13 megapixels. The second camera has a QVGA sensor to assist the main camera take clear pictures, especially in low-light conditions.
The front camera is 5 megapixels which also offers do a fair job with some good colors. One thing I love though is the fact that both the front and rear cameras can shoot videos up to 1080p at 30fps.
Design and Display
Design-wise, Infinix also got everything right here for an entry-level smartphone. The Display is 6.6-inch with a 720p resolution of 1612-by-720 pixels and a 20.15:9 aspect ratio.
The screen also has a nice picture quality and also offers a good level of brightness as well. The screen however struggles to cope under direct sunlight
At the back, you have the cameras with the fingerprint sensor just next to it below the LED flash, while the headphone jack, USB-C port, and speakers are all at the bottom. The volume and power buttons are all on the right.
Specs, Performance, and Software
The Infinix Smart 7 Plus offers up to 6GB of RAM, that’s 3GB and another 3GB extended RAM and 64GB. This is sufficient space for you to run multiple apps and store files. At 64GB, the storage is a bit little though for a 2023 smartphone.
We are also getting a Unisoc SC9863A1 Chipset powering this device which manages to keep the XOS 7.6 skin going. What this means is that you’re assured of all the latest features and security updates from Google and Infinix. The Infinix Smart 7 Plus comes with Android OS v12.0 out of the box.
Conclusion
The Infinix Smart 7 Plus is a very interesting device at its price point. It comes with an number of great features with our favorite of course being the 6000mAh battery.
The design is also quite good. Might feel sluggish at times, especially on heavy usage, but still, it manages to get everything done.
In fact, except for its low-quality camera system and not-so-impressive 720p display, the phone looks quite nice and is worth giving a second look.
