This website lets you check who to vote for within your locality

The clock is ticking and Kenyans are counting less than a week before they line up to vote for a new set of leaders. A key aspect of this election and others that have taken place in recent times is the role of technology in enhancing efficiency, accuracy and convenience.

A fortnight ago, a website named My Candidate was launched in Nairobi to help voters easily identify candidates vying within their locality.

The website developed by ODIPODEV, Open Cities Lab and investigative media house African Uncensored has listed all the 15,082 candidates cleared to vie in the upcoming polls and matched them with their posts and positions they are vying for.

My Candidate, therefore, comes in as an attempt to fill the information gap. “ a statement by African Uncensored elaborates. The platform is poised as a “means through which the electorate can have easy access to information about who is running in their ward, country etc.”

It makes it easy for voters to access comprehensive data derived from IEBC. It narrows down candidates within all elective posts, giving important information including the parties they are vying on.

According to African Uncensored, “One can also select a candidate to have access to all publicly available information about them via an automated Google search.”
