Microsoft is scaling down its operations in Russia

Microsoft Corporation is making substantial downscaling of its business in Russia, joining dozens of firms that have since pulled out or scaled-down following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

“As a result of the changes to the economic outlook and the impact on our business in Russia, we have made the decision to significantly scale down our operations in Russia,” a Microsoft spokesperson said

Reports indicate that this decision will affect more than 400 employees, although the company has said that it will continue to fulfill its “existing contractual obligations with its Russian customers. This means that customers of products such as Azure and Office software will still continue to receive support.

“We are working closely with impacted employees to ensure they have our full support during this difficult time.” Microsoft said.

Most American conglomerates operating in Russia have either pulled out or substantially reduced their operating capacity since the war broke out.

IBM decided to completely pull out of Russia stating, “As the consequences of the war continue to mount and uncertainty about its long-term ramifications grows, we have now made the decision to carry out an orderly wind-down of IBM’s business in Russia.” IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishn wrote in memo.

Apple, Nike and Dell Technologies are among American multinationals that have severed ties with Russia.
