Digital sports firm BetKing hands over refurbished Community Youth Centre to Kawangware youths

Leading digital and sports entertainment firm BetKing has today handed over a newly renovated Youth Community Centre that will benefit over 5000 Kawangware youths.

The Dagoretti Youth Welfare Organization runs the community center founded in 1996 as the first welfare of youths in the then Dagoretti constituency. It is currently home to hundreds of young men and women who are in recovery in Kawangware.

The centre is a haven where the community can safely interact with each other while making a living from their sports and movies viewing center, all this in a small room of approx. 20 sqm with land donated by the county government to the group.

Here, they open their doors to youths in the community to watch their favorite football matches and support their favorite teams such as Arsenal, Man United, Manchester City, amongst others. Games are charged between Shs 20 and Shs 50, depending on the game’s prominence.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Jackie Tonui, Head of Marketing, Kenya, said the newly refurbished community centre would provide a habitable joint for the youth in Kawangware to watch their favourite local and international matches.

“Today, we had a newly renovated community youth centre to Dagoretti Youth Welfare Organisation. We believe the new structure will go along to support the youths in Kawangware enjoy their local and international matches. The welfare will also be able to generate cash for their projects and support the jobless youth around here,” said Jackie. “This is part of Betking’s greater community support agenda to ensure that we impact the lives of the communities we live in, and the plan is to roll out similar initiatives to all parts of the country.”

The chairman of Dagoretti Youth Welfare Organization Centre, Ramadhan Hadisi, appreciated BetKing during the handover, saying it will go a long way in helping to accommodate recovering youth:

“This centre has been the home to many abandoned youths in recovery. It provides a recreational and sports centre for them, a place to gather as a community. We appreciate this generous support from BetKing and it will go a long way in giving a new life to the youths of Kawangare.

BetKing is committed to improving the conditions of the society where it operates – to empower community and individuals, unlocking new opportunities, creating jobs, and opening doors to entrepreneurship. This renovation of the Dagoretti Youth Community Centre was the initiative undertaken as a part of the opening of its first retail shop in Kawangware. Since then, BetKing has launched its second shop in Kayole.
