Google rolls out a new standalone messenger app
Google has rolled out a new Messenger app that has been created to basically send and receive both SMS and MMS messages, Android Police has reported.
Dubbed Google Messenger, the app will also let users share pictures and videos.
”This new app is the stock SMS/MMS handler in Android 5.0, but also can be downloaded to other devices with SMS/MMS capabilities, provided they run Android 4.1 or higher” Android police reported.
With this app, users will also be able to search their contacts and conversations, block SMSs if, send audio messages, and also color messaging threads.
Android Police thinks this new app could be an alternative for users who don’t quite like Hangouts, which integrates SMS with Google chats.
