Trump Is Coming Back on Social Media but with His Own Platform
The only solution to keep touch with his followers
Trump was banned by nearly every major social media platform on the planet, including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram, in light of the US Capitol’s attacks. With no other major social media platform to call “home,” Trump is building his platform.
“I do think that we’re going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here, with his own platform,” said Jason Miller, senior adviser of the 45th US president, in an interview.
“And this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media, it’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does.”
The upcoming platform, Miller, expects, will attract “tens of millions of people.”
On the heels of his ban by big tech, Trump and his ardent supporters shifted to Parler. Parler is a twitter-like platform that describes itself as “an unbiased social media focused on real user experiences and engagement. Free expression without violence and no censorship.”
Parler attracted lots of attention after Trump’s social media ban, but its glory was short-lived when Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store delisted the app. It was also banned by Amazon Web Services, the service that hosted the app, taking it offline over violence-inciting posts.
While creating his own social media platform seems like the ultimate solution, it would take more responsibility to survive on Google Play Store and App Store. The two primary distribution channels for apps on mobile devices.
Additionally, adopting a “free speech” model, like Parler, might also make it hard, if not impossible, to find a long term hosting provider.
