OPPO Kenya officially unveiled the OPPO Reno5 series a couple of weeks ago. The company launched two devices under this series – the Reno5 and Reno5 F.
The former as we have previously mentioned, is the highlight reel of the new Reno5 series. There’s a tiny difference between the two. On both, OPPO has included AI-powered imaging features like AI Highlight Video and AI Mixed Portrait to enhance video and image quality.
We will be talking about this in a separate article in the coming week. In this article, we will be talking about the battery.
The phone draws power from a 4300mAh battery that can be juiced at mind-blowing 50W charging speeds via USB Type C. One of my favourite things about this phone.
According to Oppo, 50W charging support can take the battery from 0% to 80% within 31 minutes to 100% in just 48 minutes.
The 50W Flash Charge available both on the Reno5 and Reno5 F is giving the devices the fastest charging time in the market.
As earlier mentioned, the OPPO Reno5 has a huge 4300mAh battery and the performance is not disappointing. For at least one week, we have been using the device and for such a slim phone, the battery performance is quite impressive.
The battery was able to last us more than a day on normal use, this is pretty good. The battery also charges incredibly quickly when using the bundled 50W charger. I was able to get roughly a 79 per cent charge in just half an hour.

By the time of writing this article, for example, the phone was at 9% we put it to charge and it had hit 79% in just 28 minutes. This is the fastest we have seen in all the recent devices we have recently reviewed thanks to the SuperVOOC technology that we have highlited below.
SuperVOOC Technology
OPPO has been leading in the flash charging space since the first commercial release of VOOC back in 2014. The company has been implementing this tech in nearly all its releases.
The new generation of OPPO’s charging hardware combines super-fast charging speeds with industry leading safety and security features.
In fact early last year, OPPO announced its cutting-edge 125W flash charge technology, setting a new charging speed record for mobile phones. In only 5 minutes, the 125W flash charge could charge a mobile phone’s 4,000mAh battery up to 41%, and to 100% in just 20 minutes at the fastest rate.
This year, OPPO is using what it’s calling the SuperVOOC on the OPPO Reno5 and 5F. SuperVOOC is an improvement to that standard VOOC and with it, OPPO says it allows users to safely push the limits of charging speeds, without sacrificing efficiency.
If you are a heavy smartphone user like me, knowing your phone will charge fast after a short time is something to be pretty excited about.
