Infinix NOTE 7 Review: Great features, Good Pricing

Infinix NOTE 7 Review: We have been playing around with the Infinix NOTE 7 for about two weeks now. The device was launched in the local market back in April and is currently available for Ksh.18,399.

At that price the Infinix NOTE 7 features some interesting specs which include a huge 6.95-inch HD+ IPS display, MediaTek Helio G70 SoC, a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging and offers up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage among other specs.

The NOTE 7 as I mentioned in our unboxing video is the biggest phone from Infinix in the NOTE series we have interacted with.

I also need to mention that the device comes in two models; the 4GB/64GB model which is what we will be talking about in this article and the 6GB/128GB model that is priced at Ksh 20,699.

Watch our unboxing video below:

Do we like the design?

There’s so much to say about the Infinix NOTE 7’s overall design. The phone sports a 6.95-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with brightness maxing out at 480nits. The display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass lining. Anyone who loves doing streams on their phone will love this display.

It carries almost everything anyone would ask for in a 2020 budget phone – the circular quad-camera setup, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor and of course the huge display.

The phone is beautiful and has some premium feel. Infinix really tried to get everything right here.  It also has different colour options to choose from; the Forest Green, Aether Black and Bolivia Blue.

Sample shots taken by the Infinix NOTE 7 Camera

The camera is one of my favorite features on this phone. Just as we have seen with all the devices in this series, it does not disappoint.

There is a triple camera setup on the rear including a 48 MP primary sensor, a 2 MP macro, 2MP depth and a 2MP f/1.8, a dedicated video camera. This phone can shoot up to 1080p videos at just 30fps. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is 16MP.

Camera modes include Bokeh, Portrait, beauty, AR shot, Panorama, Video and Short Video and SuperNight Mode for your night shots.

The camera delivers impressive details and good colours. See sample shots below.

So here’s the thing, Infinix also decided to add a regular and short video mode on this device. Short video mode should work best for anyone who uses social media platforms like TikTok. The videos can be shot between 15 and 60 seconds.

Let’s talk about the performance and battery

As we have mentioned at the beginning of this article Infinix really tried to get everything right with this phone. It uses MediaTek’s first gaming-focused chipset, Helio G70 and runs on Android 10.0 out-of-the-box, with proprietary XOS 6.0 UI on top.

The phone works smoothly with no lags or hiccups, thanks to the G70 processor. Security features include Face Unlock, together with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

NOTE 7 also introduces a whole new user interface, with snappier performance and exciting new features. Users can customize their phones to suit their own tastes with the latest features, such as Dark Theme and Android 10 Gesture Navigation.

One other neat feature we loved is the WhatsApp mode. I was actually surprised to see this feature on this phone. This feature lets you restrain data usage when you deem it fit but keep WhatsApp working as usual. Others include game mode, bike mode among others.

There’s also a 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM paired with Android that made us give this phone a plus. Multitasking and switching between apps was seamless.

The 5000mAh battery did perform good as well. The phone can push you a whole day and you will still have some juice left to push you for an extra hour or two.

18W fast charging and charging the phone from 0% to 100% should take you like an hour and a half.

Should you buy the Infinix NOTE 7?

For Ksh.18,399, the Infinix NOTE 7 is a good consideration. If you have been a keen follower of the NOTE series, you will notice some good upgrades. Great display and design, good battery life and the cameras take some good shots as well. It’s definitely worth considering.
