Oppo’s First Phone With Wireless Charging Technology Announced
Just days after Oppo’s sister company OnePlus announced that their next phone, OnePlus 8, will feature wireless charging technology, Oppo has also followed suit. The company has unveiled Oppo Ace 2, which succeeds Reno Ace released last year.
Two significant changes have been made with Oppo Ace 2, and one of them includes dropping off the Reno name. Second thing, wireless charging support. The company has proprietary named its wireless charging as “AirVOOC.”
Oppo Ace 2 AirVOOC wireless charging technology tops at 40W; 10W more than what OnePlus has achieved with similar charging technology. Compared to other smartphone companies, only Huawei’s P40 Pro(specs) can be juiced at such speeds wirelessly.
Other companies are still lagging, Apple not worth mentioning with their minute 7.5W wireless charging technology. For wired charging, Oppo, for now, leads the industry with a 65W wired charging brick.
On the internals, Oppo Ace 2 is a quite capable device. It sports Qualcomm’s most potent mobile chip, Snapdragon 865, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of fast UFS 3.0 storage. The display a 6.55-inch FHD+ (1080p) OLED notched screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16MP hole-punch selfie camera.
The rear camera lenses are four, with a 48-megapixel lens leading the pack. The rest include an 8-megapixel ultrawide snapper, a 2-megapixel macro, and another 2MP depth sensor.
The battery can accommodate up to 4,000mAh and will take nearly an hour to charge fully thanks to the included 65W charging brick. There’s also 10W reverse charging, Android 10 with ColorOS 7.1 on top, NFC, and WIFI 6 support.
Oppo Ace 2 comes in three memory configurations; 8/128GB for 3,999 yuan (~$565), 8/256GB for 4,399 yuan (~$625) and 12/256GB for 4,599 yuan (~$650). There are also three color options to choose from: purple, grey, and silver. The company has not yet revealed an international launch date.
