TikTok Surpasses 1.5 Billion Downloads
TikTok, the popular short video app, has surpassed 1.5 Billion downloads. These figures are not for the Play Store alone but a combination of downloads from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
As per the previous estimates, the app hit the 1 billion mark in February 2019, and in just under nine months, it has amassed 500million downloads. TikTok has been downloaded 614 million times this year, which is up 6% from last year’s stats at a similar time.
This places the app at position three, with only Facebook’s WhatsApp and Messenger surpassing it in the number of downloads. Compared to last year, TikTok was the fourth most downloaded non-gaming app with 655.8 million unique installs.
WhatsApp is the most downloaded app with 707.4 million installs, followed by Messenger, which has been downloaded 636.2 million times this year. Facebook’s main app is the fourth most downloaded app, with 587 million downloads, followed by Instagram at number five with 376.2 million installs.
India is one of the prominent markets for the app, which accounts for about 31 percent (466.8 million) of TikTok’s unique installs. The app is also popular in China and the United States which trail behind India.
Despite the app being popular in India, SensorTower notes that almost half of the revenue is from Chinese users, followed by the US. Since its inception, TikTok has generated $175 million in revenue worldwide across Google Play and App Store, according to the research firm.
