We have covered almost everything about the Infinix HOT 8. The device just as we stated in our review offers everything at its price – Good camera, a 6.6 inch display, 2GB of RAM, an entry-level MediaTek processor all for Ksh. 10,999.
All that aside, one of the factors smartphone users always consider is a phone is the battery life. Users want a phone with a battery life that will not get them worried about when they should charge their device should they run out of juice. In fact, we have previously published an article on TechTrendsKE on how future smartphones could have more battery life. In the article, TechTrendsKE’s contributor Alvin notes that even though batteries have been improved over time, the demand for more juice is always increasing as smartphones get more sophisticated.

We have also done a post on top smartphones with high battery capacity for heavy users which you can read about here. You will notice that the Infinix HOT 8 is missing from that list. This is because the phone hit the market after that post went live.
Well, when Infinix launched the HOT 8. It made it clear that one of the key selling points for the device is the powerful 5000 mAh battery. “The launch of HOT 8 is a great example of how Infinix spares no efforts in delivering on its promise. By integrating a bigger battery, a bigger display and other key features, we not only aim to satisfy consumers’ entertainment desires, but also inspire them to explore a world of creativity with one device at smaller cost.” Said Benjamin Jiang, Managing Director of Infinix Mobile said.
The company noted that the Infinix HOT 8 enables 4 days of battery life with just 3 hours of charging through the 2A fast charge technology. Is this really the case? We put the Infinix HOT battery to test.
Well, the 5000 mAh battery is really good and can push you 2 to3 days of heavy use and 4 days as Infinix claimed in moderate use. See the screenshot below.
I started writing this article at around 11:25pm on Thursday night. I had fully charged the phone two days ago (On a Tuesday) and used the phone the entire of the two days as my secondary phone. At 11:26pm on Thursday which was my third day, I had 66% of juice remaining.
With the 66% I had more than 2 days remaining. This is impressive.
I also decided to play music from a music streaming service I use the entire night just to check what percentage the battery will be by the time I wake up in the morning. The battery was 61% when I went to bed At 7:20am on Friday morning the phone was at 34% and I had one day remaining remaining.
My usage revolved around juts calls, text messages, using the camera and doing some google searches and some bit of Twitter use. I tried avoiding heavy usage just to see how long the battery will last me.
Why is this 5000 mAh battery on the Infinix HOT 8 a big deal? Well, there are so many smartphones with similar battery size that we have interacted with the entire of this year and none has ever taken me this long.
I need to also mention that there’s a 10W charger supplied in the Infinix HOT 8 box. Unfortunately it’s not a Type-C. The phone does not also support fast charging and charging it from 0% to 100% took me close to 3 hours.
Battery saving modes
The Infinix HOT 8 also has some power saving modes to help you retain more juice. There’s the smart power save mode that restricts the power consumption for rarely-used apps.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you are looking for a reliable affordable phone with a good battery life then you need to look no further. The Infinix HOT 8 battery life is just impressive. The downside is just the slow charging, I mean 3 hours is just too long and of course the lack of USB Type-C support.
