Huawei will need more time to become the biggest smartphone seller
Huawei had at the start of the year set a goal to become the world’s largest smartphone seller by the end of Q4 2019. According to Gartner, a research company, Huawei was the second smartphone producer by the end of Q1 2019 behind their closest rivals Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd from South Korea.
Markets have been good for Huawei in Q2 2019 in which the company reported a 50% increase in smartphone shipments according to IDC. Despite an overall market decline of 1.8%, a 50% rise for Huawei indicated a steady market growth the company was already amassing. As per the IDC report, other competitors like Apple and Samsung Electronics experienced a 30% and 8% decline respectively. This was of course before the US trade ban kicked in.
Huawei’s goal has to be postponed according to Huawei’s executive officer.
“We would have become the largest in the fourth quarter (of this year), but now we feel that this process may take longer,” said Shao Yang, Chief Strategy Officer for Huawei Consumer Business Group.
AT the CES Asia Technologies Show held in Shangai China, Shang Yong revealed that the company makes between 500,000 to 600,000 smartphone sales in a single day globally. Yong didn’t reveal any details as per why they have refocused their ambitions, but with what’s happening with Huawei lately, it’s pretty clear what the company is going through.
The Chinese tech giant was determined to make the goal come true even without the US market, which they were restricted from selling their smartphones since last year. Since the beginning, the root of Huawei’s problems has been tied to the fears the United States had against chances that the Chinese company’s tech equipment could be used for espionage.
