Motorists in Nairobi will from midnight today pay less for petrol as the price of super petrol has gone down by sh 0.46.
Super petrol will from midnight retail at sh 107.46 per litre down from the current price of sh 107.92 per litre. while the price of diesel which is mostly used by PSV vehicles will rise to sh 97 .86 per litre from sh 96.96 per litre signifying a rise by sh 0.90 per litre.
Kerosene which mostly used by low income households for lighting and cooking will also rise by 0.70 per litre to sh 77.45 a litre. This is according to the latest prices set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the period between March 15th to April 14th.
The commission in a press release attributed this to a reduction in landing costs. “The changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported super petrol decreasing by 1.26 per cent from $688.76 per tonne in January to $680.05 per tonne in February; diesel increasing by 4.22 per cent to $618.49 per tonne and kerosene increasing by 3.45 per cent to $668 per tonne.’’
The price of petrol differs in different towns in Kenya due to transportation cost from the port of Mombasa with price of petrol going for sh 104.18 per litre in the coastal town and diesel retailing at sh 94.59 per liter.
Motorists in northern part of Kenya will pay more for fuel as petrol will retail at sh 121.27 a litre, sh 13.81 than in Nairobi while diesel will sell at sh 111.67 a litre, that sh 13.81 more than what their counterparts in Nairobi will be paying.
