OPPO to launch a mid-range device with full-screen display and face unlock in Kenya


OPPO wants to expand its product portfolio of mid-range devices after announcing plans to launch the its next device, the OPPO A83 in Kenya. The full screen display device is expected to take on the recently launched TECNO Camon CM from TECNO Mobile in the Kenyan market.

The OPPO A83, has already been launched in countries like China and India and has been highlighted to feature a unique body structure. Another notable feature on the OPPO A83 is the AI beauty technology on the selfie camera. Remember this technology was one of the key selling point of the OPPO F5 which was launched last year.

“The flexible display and design market this 2018 is expected to grow quickly as this technology is expected to expand further and diverse. Our goal is to take an early lead in the flexible display market by introducing new products with enhanced performance and differentiated designs this year.” James Irungu, OPPO Kenya Public Relations and Communication Manager says.

The device sports at 5.7-inch HD+ full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 720×1440 pixel resolution. The smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat operating system and is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor. The device also offers 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage which can further be expanded to 128GB by adding a microSD card.

OPPO also says it has also eliminated the fingerprint completely on the OPPO A83 choosing to go with face unlock.

The smartphone comes with dual SIM functionality and sports a 13MP rear camera LED flash and an 8MP front facing camera for selfies. Measuring 150.5 x 73.1 x 7.7mm, the smartphone is backed by a 3180 mAh battery and offers 4G, VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The smartphone will come in Champagne Gold and Black colour options and is expected to be available for purchase starting mid February.
