Samsung Tightens Its Grip on the Midrange With the A57 and A37 in Step

Display and chassis changes move the A57 toward a slimmer, more premium footprint while the A37 holds its ground

Samsung has refreshed its mid-range lineup with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and A37 5G. These devices arrive as direct successors to the A56 and A36, focusing on refined industrial design and updated internal silicon. The Galaxy A57 5G stands out as the most premium entry, featuring a 6.9 mm ultra-thin chassis and the new Exynos 1680 processor. Both models retain 5,000 mAh batteries but move to 45W wired charging, aligning them with the faster standards found in the flagship S series.

Display and Chassis Refinement

The Galaxy A57 5G represents a structural departure for the series. It utilizes an aluminium frame paired with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on the front and back. By adopting a Super AMOLED Plus panel, which is physically thinner than standard OLEDs, Samsung reduced the device thickness to 6.9 mm. This makes it 0.5 mm slimmer than the previous generation.

The Galaxy A37 5G maintains a plastic frame but upgrades its durability with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus. Both phones feature 6.7-inch displays with 120 Hz refresh rates and a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. While the A57 5G achieves near-symmetrical bezels, the A37 5G continues to use a slightly larger bottom chin.

Exynos 1680 and Performance Metrics

The transition to 4 nm fabrication for the mid-range chipsets provides a measurable uplift in efficiency. The Galaxy A57 5G runs on the Exynos 1680, which delivers 10 percent better CPU performance and a 42 percent improvement in neural processing over the Exynos 1580. This NPU boost is specifically intended to handle on-device AI tasks within One UI 8.5.

For the Galaxy A37 5G, the jump is more significant. It moves to the Exynos 1480, resulting in a 167 percent increase in neural processing performance compared to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 found in the Galaxy A36. Thermal management is handled by a vapor chamber in the A57 that is 13 percent larger than the 2025 model.

Camera Hardware and Optical Transitions

Samsung has kept the 50 MP main sensor with optical image stabilization as the anchor for both systems. However, the Galaxy A57 5G differentiates itself with a 12 MP ultrawide lens and a 5 MP macro sensor. It also introduces software-driven “blur-free” transitions, allowing for smoother focal length switching during video recording.

The Galaxy A37 5G utilizes an 8 MP ultrawide sensor. Both devices share a 12 MP front camera capable of recording 4K HDR video. The upgraded Image Signal Processor in the new Exynos chips is designed to reduce noise in low-light photography, a feature Samsung markets under its “Nightography” suite.

Power, Connectivity, and Long-term Support

Despite the reduction in thickness for the A57, both models house a 5,000 mAh battery. Charging speeds have been standardized at 45W, though users must provide their own compatible Super Fast Charging 2.0 adapter. Notably, wireless charging remains absent from both models.

Connectivity sees a split in standards. The Galaxy A57 5G supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.1, while the A37 5G is limited to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. Samsung has committed to 6 years of OS and security updates for both handsets, launching with Android 16.
