Global technology services leader NTT DATA is accelerating the deployment of Starlink-powered connectivity services across Africa, aiming to deploy over 1,000 installations within the next six months.
Following its recent agreement to become an authorized reseller, the company has already completed nearly 100 installations in Kenya, identifying the country as one of its fastest-growing markets for satellite connectivity.
The expansion targets critical sectors such as banking, retail, logistics, agriculture, mining, and emergency services. According to NTT DATA, the move is driven by an increasing demand for network resilience as businesses across the continent face operational disruptions caused by frequent fiber cuts, power instability, and unreliable last-mile infrastructure.
“Connectivity has become business critical and the cost of downtime is now too high for most organizations,” said Ndung’u Njoroge, General Manager for Digital Network Services at NTT DATA in East Africa. “By incorporating Starlink connectivity into our portfolio, we’re giving clients, particularly those in remote or hard-to-service areas, additional options that enhance network resilience and help keep their operations running smoothly.”
Unlike providers offering standalone satellite services, NTT DATA focuses on integrating Starlink directly into a client’s existing network architecture. This allows businesses to manage fiber, wireless, and satellite connections through a single, unified system.
“Our approach is simple. We deploy what works best for each organization, whether it’s a bank looking for secure redundancy, a retail chain needing stable backup, or a remote site that has never had reliable internet before,” Njoroge added.
To support the accelerated rollout, NTT DATA has implemented local stocking of Starlink hardware in Kenya. This logistics strategy has significantly reduced delivery times, allowing clients to go live within days, a crucial factor for industries reliant on uninterrupted uptime.
The company is offering several Starlink priority plans, ranging from 1TB to 6TB of high-speed monthly data. To accommodate different enterprise budgets, NTT DATA provides flexible payment models, including outright equipment purchase, a short lease-to-own model, and bundled packages covering both hardware and services.
Crucially for enterprise clients, the service includes local after-sales support and a Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitment to replace faulty hardware within 48 hours.
The push for satellite adoption comes amidst recent undersea cable outages and regional power challenges that have highlighted the vulnerability of traditional terrestrial networks. By combining Starlink’s low-earth orbit (LEO) capabilities with digital networking expertise, NTT DATA aims to help organizations safeguard business continuity and support cloud-based operations even in the most remote locations.
