The 17th edition of the CIO100 Awards & Symposium, one of Africa’s most influential technology gatherings, is set to take place from November 19–21, 2025 at Enashipai Resort & Spa in Naivasha.
The annual event will bring together CIOs, CTOs, digital transformation leaders and innovators from across the continent to discuss and showcase the technologies driving Africa’s next phase of business growth.
Organised by CIO Africa under dx5, the CIO100 Awards recognise organisations and individuals that have successfully leveraged technology to improve business operations, enhance service delivery, and solve local challenges. Over the past year, companies across Africa have continued to adopt emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity to scale their operations and offer more efficient services.
In the lead-up to the event, dx5 held a teaser session at Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi that brought together tech leaders who have been central to Africa’s digital transformation journey. The session featured a panel discussion with Geoffrey “GG” Gitagia, the reigning CIO of the Year and Group IT Manager at Avenue Healthcare, alongside Timothy Laku, a Fractional CIO/CTO, among other industry leaders.
Speaking at the event, dx5 Director Andrew Karanja said the CIO100 Awards continue to play a critical role in shaping the continent’s innovation culture. He noted that the awards are not only a celebration, but also an inspiration for forward-thinking leadership. “This event is not just a celebration; it’s a testament to the relentless spirit of innovation that drives our continent,” he said. “By recognising those at the forefront of integrating technology with business strategy, we are setting a standard and inspiring a future where technology is a key part of business success in Africa.”
The CIO100 Symposium is anchored by the CIO100 MegaTrends Report, a research-backed analysis of how technology is being applied across different African industries. According to the latest findings, cloud computing continues to be the most widely adopted emerging technology among African enterprises. Artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity follow closely, underscoring the role of intelligence, insight and protection in driving business value. The report also notes increasing adoption of machine learning, IoT and edge computing to support automation, real-time decision making and predictive capabilities.
The highlight of the CIO100 Awards is the CIO of the Year honour, awarded to a technology leader whose work has demonstrated significant business and operational impact. Last year’s winner, Geoffrey “GG” Gitagia, received the award for leading a digital patient onboarding system at Avenue Healthcare that reduced patient check-in time to just three minutes. Previous recipients of the award include Moses Okundi of Absa Bank, Jaine Mwai of Standard Chartered Bank and Kenneth Ogwang’ of Diageo Eastern and Southern Africa.
The three-day event will feature keynote conversations, expert panels, masterclasses, roundtable sessions and networking engagements, culminating in a gala dinner celebrating the top 100 technology leaders in Africa. Sponsors of the 2025 edition include Google Cloud Africa, Nathan Claire Africa, PAIX Data Centres, CloudPlexo, Tenece, Radware, Africa Data Centres, DownToEarth Technologies, ManageEngine, DataGroup IT, Incentro, Computer Learning Centre and DataComms Training.
